The Art of Death

Edwidge Danticat, winner of the prestigious National Book Critics Circle Award, is a two-time finalist for the National Book Award, recipient of the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and the MacArthur Fellows Program Genius grant, among many other honors and awards. Her latest book, The Art of Death, is a memoir of her mother’s death that also acts as a literary criticism. Reviewers have praised it as “elegant and thoughtful, and a fascinating meditation on the thing that brings us together.” It has been heralded as “a master class in literature and a guidebook for the most universal human experience.”
